The Human Rights Documentation Exchange defends immigrant survivors of human rights abuses by providing information critical to their claims for refuge in the U.S., advancing public awareness of human rights abuses, and encouraging public policy development.
HRDE has two programs that fulfill it's mission: Documentation Services (Refugee Legal Support Services) and Central America and Mexico NewsPaks. Documentation Services (Refugee Legal Support Service) provides information on country conditions and human rights abuses to people applying for asylum and other terms of relief in the U.S. This information is used during their hearing before a judge or adjudicator to help determine if the person has a reasonable fear of persecution in his or her own country. Central America and Mexico NewsPaks are compilations of newspaper articles from the U.S. and abroad sent to subscribers on a bi-weekly basis. Articles focus on politics, economics, health, education, crime, and border issues. |
